What to know about Chris Owen ...

I was born in Colorado, raised in southern New Mexico and have lived in Santa Barbara California for the last 17 years. I grew up in a sparsely populated area outside of Deming New Mexico near the Mexican border. I grew up hunting, fishing and exploring the desert and mountains near my home. I have a deep love for the outdoors and the abundance of beauty this country has to offer.

I moved to Santa Barbara in 2003 to attend Brooks Institute of Photography. Growing up, California was just a place that rich people went on vacation. Little did I know, you can be poor just about anywhere as long as you are willing to pack up your car and go. That is just what I did and it was the best decision I have ever made. I absolutely love living here although I do heed the call of the desert as often as I can. The desert will always be my place to re-center myself.

I have spent the last 10 years as a professional printer/digital retoucher for local photographers and artists alike. I lost touch with my own photography for a while as I spent all my time working on other people’s projects. Recently I have had the opportunity to get back in touch with my passion and never leave the house without my camera.

Life is good! Take the time to fulfill your passion. The grass is always greener on the other side if you don’t water your own lawn.
